Location
Approximately 5 miles downriver from Huntly. Access is off the Huntly- Portsoy B9022 road to Coniecleugh Farm.
Summary
At Coniecleugh Farm there is a car park and a portacabin & rod box for anglers use.The beat is approximately 2.5 miles long and is mainly double banked although all of the fishing is done from the left bank. There are about twenty named pools and it is a 4 rod beat.
The Fishing
The River Deveron consists of three main rivers,the Deveron, Bogie & Isla. At Coniecleugh only the Deveron and Bogie have merged. Fly rods are from 10'to 15'depending on the water height and fly sizes from 6's in the spring to 12's in the later part of the season. Spinning is allowed when a rod of 8-8.5' is adequate. Worming is NOT permitted on this beat. Thigh waders are sufficient.
The Fish
In the main,the salmon run starts in March. The months of March, April and May are best for spring fishing for salmon. The months of June, July and August are best for sea trout. Grilse runs begin normally in June and carry on to September. The salmon summer runs are usually from July to the end of October. Brown trout fishing is at its best from the beginning of the season until May and then there are evening rises throughout the summer.
