Location
Approximately 8 miles from Huntly. From the village of Rothiemay take the B117 for about 3 miles.
Summary
A 2 rod beat with 8 named pools. Approximately 3/4 mile in length although double banked all fishing is done from the left bank.
The Fishing
Access is off the B117 and vehicles can be taken to the river. Parking is by the fishing hut. Thigh waders are usually sufficient although in high water chest waders may be required.
Fly sizes are mainly 6's in the part of the year to low water size 12's during the summer.
Fly rods from 12'to 15' are sufficient going down to 10'-10 1/2'in low water conditions. Spinning is permitted and a rod of 8'- 8 1/2' is sufficient until the end of May and thereafter spinning is only allowed in high water.
Worming is prohibited except for beginners 16 years and under.
Usually the salmon runs start in March. The months of March, April and May are best for spring salmon fishing. Grilse runs begin normally in June and carry on right through to September. The summer salmon runs are usually from July to the end of October.
Brown trout fishing is at its best from the beginning of the season until May and then there are evening rises throughout the summer.
