KINNAIRDY

Location

The beat lies approximately 8 miles downriver from Huntly. A97 from Huntly to Bridge of Marnoch then to the right to Longhaugh Farm.

Summary

Fishing is on the left bank only. The top boundary is where the Kinnairdy burn enters the Deveron and the bottom boundary is about 500 metres below Longhaugh Farm where the Millhill burn enters the river.

The Fishing

This is a 2 rod beat with 6 named pools. Thigh waders are adequate, although chest waders may be occasionally required. Fly rods from 8'-9' for brown trout and 10'(in low water) to 15'(in high water) for salmon. Fly sizes from 2inch waddington in the early part of the season down to size 12 in the summer. Spinning is permitted and worm fishing is allowed June to September. There is a small fishing hut at the Upper Hummies pool and access to the hut can be made at all times by using a 4x4 vehicle. In very wet weather saloon cars should be left at the farm which is about 400 metres away from the hut.

The Fish

The salmon runs start in March. March,April and May are best for spring fishing whilst July and August are best for sea trout. Grilse runs begin in June and carry on right through to September. Summer salmon runs are usually from July to the end of October. Brown trout fishing is best from the start of the season (March) to May and then there are evening rises throughout the summer.
