The Deveron Fishing Festival 2011

A CHANCE TO ENJOY SALMON AND TROUT FISHING AT THE FIRST DEVERON FESTIVAL !

The Deveron Bogie and Isla Rivers Charitable Trust is to hold a unique festival in May with anglers from throughout Britain and Europe invited to visit and fish on Deveronside.

Central to the festival is the generous donation of 14 of the district's famous beats, free of charge. Hosting each beat will be a leading tackle manufacturer or prominent angling organisation, whose well known instructors will coach anglers and visitors on a one-to-one basis and provide hospitality.

From Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th the beat "rods" will be open to members of the public who have applied in advance to fish. Those who are successfull in the ballot will be notified of their beat to fish for the 3 days. They may also take a friend and rod share the chosen beat - applications are invited via this website or you may request a form by post.

Members of the public wishing to take part in the festival who are not successfull in the fishing ballot are also invited from Monday 16th to Saturday 21st to meet the various angling personalities and try all the famous tackle names. Visitors must visit Festival HQ at Turriff Tackle and Trophies to be directed to the various tackle names.

On Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st festival trade tenants will invite their own guests, who are associated with fishery promotion throughout the UK to also sample the delights of fishing the Deveron.

In addition to the excellent salmon and brown trout fishing, other highlights include the opportunity to try state-of-the-art tackle, meet some of the sport's best known names, watch expert fly-dressing demonstrations and buy art and antiques. Tickets will also be sold to attend a gala meal and auction to celebrate the Trust's 10th anniversary on Friday the 20th. It will be a memorable gathering !

We are approaching the start of the 2009 season. The Board and Trust invited fishermen and other interested parties to join us on the river close to Huntly Castle to ''bless'' the river.

With the river banks covered in a foot of snow but in glorious sunshine Board Chairman, Malcolm Hay, blessed the river with a quaich of Strathisla 14 year old which was then handed round to those who braved the elements. George Manson added to the splendid occasion with his pipes and led us to the river.
